Government Physiotherapy College

Physiotherapy is a branch of health sciences that deals with correction and prevention of movement dysfunction. Physiotherapists are the health care professionals who restore mobility, elevate pain related to movement dysfunction and play key role in prevention and rehabilitation of person with locomotor disability.

Government Physiotherapy College was started in Government Spine Institute in 1992 with intake capacity of 30 students and course duration of 3 and 1/2 years (including 6 months internship). In the year 2001, intake capacity was increased to 50 students and course duration to 4 and 1/2 years which was further scaled up to 100 UG students’ intake capacity in the year 2006.

Post Graduation (PG) in Physiotherapy was started in the year 2005 with 2 years course duration. The students are provided with stipend for the entire duration of course. At present PG intake capacity is 15 seats with specialization in five disciplines like Master of Physiotherapy in Musculoskeletal conditions, Master of Physiotherapy in Neuromuscular conditions, Master of Physiotherapy in Cardiopulmonary conditions, Master of Physiotherapy in Sports and Master of Physiotherapy in Rehabilitation.

Government Prosthetics & Orthotics College

Prosthetics and Orthotics is a dynamic and expanding allied health science profession, though separate disciplines, but due to common goal for rehabilitation they are united into one. Prosthetics involves use of artificial limbs (prosthesis) to enhance the function and lifestyle of persons with limb loss. Orthotics involves precision and creativity in the design and fabrication of external braces (orthosis) to control weakened or deformed regions of the body of a physically impaired person.

The services includes enhancing upper limb functions such as standing, walking, shock absorption, energy storage and return, cosmetic appearance, reaching and grasping, hammering, painting, weight lifting and activities of daily living through different types of orthosis. Other services includes, pressure garments, finger, eye and ear prosthesis and all types of orthosis for person with physical impairment/disability.

Government Prosthetics & Orthotics College is first of its kind in Gujarat and one of the eleven such colleges in the country. It was started in the year 2005 with intake capacity of 10 students. The eligibility criterion for admission is 12th Science stream pass outs for this 4 & 1/2 years degree graduation course. Till current year, 40 students from Gujarat and other states have received Bachelor degree in Prosthetics & Orthotics.
