Gujarat State Government managed Government Spine Institute (formerly known as Paraplegia Hospital, Research & Training Centre) established on 13th October 1978 with generous donation for building by Chimanlal Lalbhai & Sudhir Chimanlal and inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of India, Shri Morarjibhai Desai.
The institute is owned by Gujarat state Government with 100% grant. Initially started with 40 beds with 2 wards, Physiotherapy & Occupational therapy departments & Prosthetic & Orthotic workshop & operation theatre for minor surgeries.
It is the Nodal centre for disabilities of the Gujarat. It works unrelentlessly to be recognized globally as one of the best Spine Institute & a complete Rehabilitation centre and provide the best Quality service at affordable cost to all Spine & Physically Disable Patients around the globe irrespective of religion, age, sex etc. with complete Rehabilitation including Vocational Rehabilitation. Established as a State Institute of Spinal Cord Injury & Complete Rehabilitation by Govt. of Gujarat. It is committed to social cause, academic environment at the institute and its updation.

The diagnosis of an unstable spinal injury and its subsequent management can be difficult and a missed spine injury can have long-term consequences. Spinal column injury must there be presumed until it is excluded.
